SUMMARY:Alumni Reunion
DESCRIPTION:Time to network! \nThe first ever HonEURs Alumni Reunion Event was a great success. After introductory speeches from this year’s Board members outlining the Association’s strategy and future plans\, three HonEURs Alumni took the stage to share their experiences after graduating from Erasmus University Rotterdam. From sustainable finance\, to VC and AI-based accounting\, the three alumni gave truly remarkable and inspirational speeches. After that\, it was time to network! By using the Zoom breakout room feature\, alumni and current Honours students were able to talk and engage in interesting discussions. Participants highly valued the networking opportunities and enjoyed catching up with people from their honours program. \nHope to see you at the next reunion! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Welcome Back!
DESCRIPTION:The Welcome Back event was a blast with way more attendees than we expected! \nThe feedback we got from several people was very diverse but always positive. Some especially appreciated the break out session in which students from each faculty were put in a virtual room with alumni of their own Honours Programme. Others highlighted the fun that we had playing Trivia\, the Wiki Game and not unimportant the delicious meal anyone could order on the bill of the HonEURs Association. \nAll in all\, during these difficult times with little social interaction\, this event proved that online events can be incredibly fun and very interesting to attend for all Honours students and Honours alumni!

SUMMARY:Sharing Oxbridge experience: HonEURs Alumni
DESCRIPTION:Oxbridge is a collective term for the oldest and most famous universities in the United Kingdom – Oxford University and Cambridge University. These universities arguably are the hardest ones to get in. Luckily\, for the Honours community\, we have alumni that have gone to those universities after graduating from Erasmus.\nThe two alumni who shared their experience about the process application\, journey inside the university and future possibilities via zoom were:\nBenedikt Jürges\, 2019 Financial Economics at University of Oxford\nSimon Marggraf\, 2020 Environmental Change and Management at University of Oxford\nThe first HonEURs online event was a big success and showed the possibilities for alumni and students to exchange experiences and ideas.

SUMMARY:Space Talks
DESCRIPTION:The Space talks were introduced by Niels Eldering\, Head of Space Solutions Section in ESA\, who informed students about the work and mission of ESA. Shortly after\, lights were dimmed and the opening of the European Space talks at HEC in Paris was broadcasted live. \nThe first part of the program featured European astronaut Thomas Pesquet. Based upon live polls on the implications of space engineering for mankind\, Pesquet discussed real-life applications from the exploration of space. \nThe highlight of the evening was the live stream to the International Space Station (ISS) with Commander Luca Parmitano. While hovering around in zero gravity\, Parmitano answered questions from students from all around the world. Remarkable were his reports on the Mars Mission and the testing’s undertaken by his colleagues to support the landing. \nThe event ended with a panel discussion led by Dr Wim Hulsink\, Niels Eldering\, and Dr René Olie. The diversity in academic backgrounds of the participating students evolved in exciting discussions around multidisciplinary lessons from discoveries in space travel. Interestingly\, the usage of data from global navigation systems such as Galileo and Copernicus were among the hot topics.

SUMMARY:Study Trip to Geneva
DESCRIPTION:Getting up at 3am to catch a plane to Geneva? No problem for 19 motivated students that joined us on our second HonEURs Trip to Geneva\, Switzerland. The Gateway to the Alps\, and home to renowned chocolate and watchmakers awaited! \nThe first day was all about getting to know the city and enjoying the Swiss way of life- we closed the day with a typical cheese fondue\, while enjoying our view over the lake. \nThursday was all about the UN! The HonEURs Association group had the honor to be hosted in the Palais des Nations. After a first general presentation on the United Nations\, we were shown around the building and explored different parts of the institutions. Our guide was able to give us some good insights! After a quick lunch\, we made our way to the World Health Organization where we got interesting insights into the global fight for health. This presentation was not only interesting for our participating students from the Medicine and health department\, but was discussed from all different viewpoints\, including Communication\, Economics and Business. After this session\, we gathered again to go back to the Palais de Nations\, were we received a presentation by a representative of the UN Conference of Trade and Development. In this last session\, we learned a lot about how the UN Trade Facilitation Agreement came about\, and its practical implications on global trade. The day was concluded by a nice social hangout in the evening. \nThe next day’s activities depended on personal interests. While some people chose to explore the city of Geneva a bit more\, a group of students was brave enough to climb up La Saléve\, a summit in France overlooking Geneva. And the view was definitely worth it! \n“For this year’s second HonEURs study trip\, we went to the beautiful Geneva to visit the United Nations. Walking around at the palaces of the United Nations was an amazing experience on its own but listening to various employees of the UN who were passionately telling what they do on a daily basis to contribute to a better world made the day very memorable. Spending the days with a nice group of people all with their own stories was really fun too\, which was greatly enhanced by the Swiss activities that we did together\, ranging from dining with cheese fondue to climbing a mountain together.”-Koen Polee\, RSM Honors Program \nIt was a great trip with amazing people.

SUMMARY:Study Trip to London and Cambridge
DESCRIPTION:Our study trip to London started very early on Thursday morning – we met at Rotterdam Central at 6.15h to catch our flight to London Gatwick at around 9:00h. \nAfter the check-in at our hostel – right next to Hyde Park – we split our group of 17 participants into smaller groups and started exploring the city center of London. Besides the London Eye\, we visited Buckingham Palace and London’s Tower Bridge. Afterwards\, we visited ‘Founder’s Factory’. The company is an incubator and accelerator for start-ups and young companies making it especially interesting for our RSM Honours Students. \nTo conclude our first day in London we enjoyed dinner in a restaurant offering contemporary Italian food. \nThe next morning\, we took the train to Cambridge. In a guided tour we discovered the renown colleges of Cambridge University\, for instance Trinity and King’s College. \nSubsequently\, we were given the chance to listen to a presentation and ensuing Q&A of a member of the admission’s office of Cambridge University. Benedict Probst\, current PhD candidate in Cambridge and alumnus of the Grand Challenges Honours Programme\, made this possible for us. Benedict himself also gave us a very personal insight into studying at a world leading University and inspired some of us to strive further. Eventually\, after an exciting day in Cambridge we rounded off our last night in London by exploring the world city’s nightlife. \nSaturday was already the day of our departure back to Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam. Before leaving\, however\, we still had some time to discover London’s famous shopping mall Harrods and went for a walk through the city’s beautiful embassy district. \nThe study trip to London and Cambridge brought together a diverse cohort of Honours Students\, made us mingle and bond. It was a great experience! \n“Amazing conversations with amazing people in two amazing cities” – Thymo ter Doest\, alumni of the RSM Honours Programme
